How Pictures Tell Stories: From Albrecht Altdorfer to Peter Paul Rubens — Alte Pinakothek

What stories do artists hide in seemingly simple paintings? For whom and why do they leave these clues and messages? This collection examines the storytelling in Early German, Early Netherlandish and Flemish paintings of the 16th and early 17th century.

The curation is exhibited on the ground floor of Alte Pinakothek until Sunday, 13 September. Visit this and other museums on any Sunday for a One-Euro entrance ticket!

A Long-Distance Call. Scenes from the Weimar Republic — Lenbachhaus

Roaring Twenties in the Weimar Republic: Great Depression and hyperinflation on the rise, the youth spends their evenings chain-smoking in cabarets and listening to swing and jazz. Slick bob cuts and fur coats are shown off alongside massive unemployment and poverty on the streets. Meanwhile, the Nazi party slowly rises, while the Munich Antiwar Committee and the feminists meet in Schwabing. Truly captivating collection of art and historic records depicting those conflictive times.
